Those in the know already understand that nothing is scratched nor dented. Everything in our gallery is up for sale at 50% or more! We are cleaning out our seconds bins, and also making room for the new product lines with our firsts!

Our gallery will be closed Thursday the 8th of March, in preparation for the sales event. The doors open Early Friday March 9th, first come first served. Once a much sought after piece of Robert Held Art Glass is gone, you are out of luck! Come early!

What is Dine Out vancouver?

Dine Out Vancouver 2012 is a continuation of an annual event that allows thousands of local food enthusiasts and tourists to dine at some of Vancouver’s top restaurants at equally attractive prices. This year was the tenth anniversary and was held on January 20th to February 5th, 2012.

Dine Out Vancouver’s Best Bite awards

The Best Bite Awards recognize restaurants in various categories as voted by the diners themselves! Categories include:

• Best Menu (per price category)
• Best Service
• Best BC VQA Wine Pairing
• Best Kronenbourg 1664 Beer Pairing
• Best Dining Experience
• Diner’s Choice.

Throughout the 17 days of the festival, diners were encouraged to take part in the Best Bite Awards by voting for their favourite Dine Out experiences. More than 1,200 votes were cast.

The winners of this year’s Dine Out Awards were honored with an awards ceremony, plaque and a gift from us at Robert Held Art Glass!

Our Contribution:

Tourism Vancouver asked us to create a locally made art glass gift to accompany the Dine Out winner’s plaque. This is the hand blown platter we created for all of the winners.

French Provincial Garden with Pond

Robert Held has been inpired by flowers through out his collections. Infact, flowers inspire all of us here in the gallery. The above picture is of our gallery design from summer 2010 inspired by Monet.

We here at the Robert held Art Glass gallery have many product lines inspired by flowers.

The Meadow product line includes a medley of wild flowers including daisies, poppies, wysteria, buttercups and bluebells.

The Red Poppy product Line. Meaning: Imagination, Dreaminess, Eternal sleep

The Cherry Blossom product line. Meaning: An enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life

And of course we have heart paperweights which reflect each of the flower product lines.

 What Are The Meanings For Your Love’s Favorite Flowers?

Flowers are also one of the most touching gifts to receive from someone and the oldest means to express emotions and show your gratitude, love and affection.

Florigraphy – This is the study of the meaning of flowers, and it reveals extra underlying meanings to sending or receiving flowers – subtle and secret messages can be passed through the different blooms.

History of the language of flowers - It is believed that the flower language began in Turkey during the seventeenth century. Romantic lovers began using floral exchanges to convey emotional messages. In the Victorian era there was a rise in the popularity with this flower language. In England during that period, dozens of dictionaries were published. Suitors carefully studied these guidebooks to select appropriate bouquets for their lovers and sweethearts.

Did you know?……..

Bob receives unique and artistic special requests often, whether it be for HGTV design and decor, the movie industry, tv industry, or other artistic endeavours. Not all requests are fulfilled due to time or other restrictions, but working on a movie project is just so tempting!

Bob was instrumental in the making of the Jumanji game’s dome for the movie Jumanji back in 1995.

Bob was approached by the studio to create the dome (center piece for the game) in the movie. The studio was especially concerned with the sizing of the piece in order to fit it into the game, not a problem for Bob. The glass blowing, color and design was created in 2-3 days. Several were made, dark with clear glints inside, green, and black with an iridized gold swirl on top. As the movie industry is known to do, the hand blown, perfectly sized domes were filmed and then the movie’s CGI team took it over and they created their own logo on top. The result is the finished game represented in the movie seen in the picture above.

Bob really got a kick out of working on this project, even though his request to meet Robin Williams was denied (boo). Mr. Williams if you are ever in Vancouver……..we’d love for you to drop by our studio and gallery.

We all need an angel sometime……

These lovely decorative handblown art glass hanging angels are a creation of a local Vancouver based lampwork glass artist named Louayne.  These lovely creatures are reintroduced to the public in cooperation with our very own Morgan Willowgate. They are available for sale in the gallery for $35.00 each.

Also available, these metal heart chimes.  It rests in the palm of your hand and has a lovely soft bell inside which rings ever-so-softly. They are a great gift for Valentine`s day, or any day you wish to celebrate love.

Here in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, we have a large multi-cultural population adding to our already diverse community. A large part of our diverse culture derives from the Continent of Asia. South Asian, Chinese, Japanese, etc. all contribute positively to our lives and experiences. We have Dragon Boat Festivals in the summertime, Cherry Blossom Festivals in the spring and at this time of year, the celebration of the Chinese New Year!

Vancouver Chinese New Year Parade 2012 – January 29, 2012 – FREEVancouver’s annual Chinese New Year Parade features the largest assembly of traditional lion dance teams in Canada, plus multicultural dance troupes, the Vancouver Police Department Motorcycle Drill Team, marching bands, and many local community groups, attracting over 50,000 spectators each year.
